No More Snow!

Today was another snow day for us! We got about 5 inches, which was just enough to interfere with turnout for today. My dad worked on the back field yesterday so RV could go out, and now he has to plow it again.  He made a wall for RV with snow.  Because the back field has wire fencing, RV will not be able to see it, and I am afraid he is going to get hurt.  My dad put snow all around the fence line so RV could not get near the wire.  It has worked super well over the last few weeks! Unfortunately as soon as the snow melts, he will not be able to go out back there, but hopefully the round pen will be back up and running by that time. Since I had off of work today, I rode him in our indoor today so he got some much needed exercise! Hope Mother Nature has no more snow in store for us! Stay Warm.

RV Update

Hi All:

It's been a very crazy winter and I do apologize for no updates, but I promise to keep you in the loop. RV has had a pretty good winter, except that he hasn't been going out too much. I am afraid to put him out with all the snow and ice especially. We are currently averaging about 2 storms a week! My dad did some plowing for RV in the round pen he goes in, however we recently got an ice storm that did not help.  The last couple of weeks, I have been lounging/riding RV just about everyday so he gets his daily excercise and stretches his muscles.

Over the weekend it warmed up a bit, and while his pen is still a mess, one of our back pens was able to be plowed and we got it down to the grass. It's pretty similar to where he goes out everyday, except its a little bigger. I put him out in there on Saturday and watched him for about an hour making sure he knew his boundaries. I made sure to give him reassurance that everything was ok! He was thrilled to be out and rolled 3 times! I added in the pony he normally goes out with later on and watched them together. RV adapted well and has been going out there for this week.

This is where he amazes me because he hasn't bunked into anything and stays close to the pony in a field he has never been in before. I always notice that he smells everything and if he isn't sure where he is walking, he will smell the area and proceed with caution. He may not see the fencing, but he knows its there :)

I am hoping this next snow storm we have on Thursday is not going to ruin RV's fun. It makes me so happy to be able to see him having a normal day of turnout just like the other horses. He loves our pony, and looks forward to spending the day with him!
