The Heat is Finally Breaking....

RV's eyes are much happier now that it hasn't been so hot......I also have no had to put anything in his eyes since there hasn't been much humidity.  His powder eye support seems to be working out well eventhough it is a little messy.  We have been sandwhiching it between his food so that none of it falls to the bottom and he eats it!  Going to ride RV when I get home today :)

Rode Yesterday

It didn't feel like it was too humid when I got home from work yesterday, so I decided to take RV for a short ride.  He wasn't out all day because both my parents were working (he doesn't go out unsupervised) so he needed the excercise.  We had a great ride and I took him out on a mini trial ride around our property. My mom was shocked to see him walking outside the ring!  He is doing so well, and it makes me so happy to see him enjoying his life right now.  We started the powder eye support yesterday, and I keep watching to make sure he is eating it and it is not falling to the bottom of his grain-so far so good.....keep you posted.

Milestone Yesterday!

After RV and I did some flat work in the ring I decided I would take him on a mini trial ride around our property.  This is something I have neglected to do because I am afraid he may trip with me on him.  I had him out for around 30 minutes, no tripping, just a good time!  I took him around our hay field with no problems, and just asked him to proceed with caution when there were steep hills.  He can see a little bit out of his right eye and I think its enough for him to judge these things.  His flat work has been phenominal, he is back into counter cantering and turning on the haunches, not to mention doing flawless flying changes! He is truly a pleasure to always be around!  After our ride I rewarded him with a nice bath :) It's super hot today, so I think it would not hurt to put in the non steriodal drops in his eyes when I get home.....he has been flare-up free, and I am trying to keep it that way.......

May be in today....

It's raining here today and it is very dark.  Usually when it is this dark in the barn RV stays in only because it's harder for him to see when there is not natural light coming in.  I am hoping it clears up in a few hours so he can go out and enjoy the day!

RV is a happy horse!

Rode RV when I got home from work today and he continues to amaze me everyday.  He enjoys working and continues to improve even with being partially blind.  He listens to my leg and even when he sees shadows trusts that I am leading him in the right direction.  Like I said earlier he is doing his dressage like a champ.  I am just careful not to place him in environments in case he does not listen to me or gets spooked. He is running low on his herbs, so I am putting in a pretty big order today :) 

Trying something new....

RV is starting to run low on his eye support, and since it is so expensive ($79.00 plus shipping for a 3 pound bag) I did some research today to see if I could find the same product a bit cheaper.  I found the same mixture in a 4 pound bag for $35.00, but it is in a powder form. RV is currently on a pellet form, but he does eat his vitamin C which is powder.  This is going to be a trial to see if he eats it and it doesn't end up on the bottom of the feed bucket.  My mom suggested we put it on the top of his grain and mix it with sweet feed so it sticks. We will see.....keep you posted when I recieve it!  I do love when I find these bargains :)
